The Punctuation and Sentence Writing module is for students who struggle to use punctuation marks accurately, and those who need encouragement to use more complex sentence structures
Overview
Many students find punctuation tricky, and so this module teaches students when it is appropriate to use capital letters, full stops, question marks, exclamation marks, speech marks, apostrophes or commas. Students only study the specific aspects of punctuation that they find challenging, as listed in the output from their initial LIfTT assessment or noted by the teacher.
Students practise using punctuation through a combination of focused writing tasks in the Student Workbook, and hands-on activities from the Resources booklet. Activities include identifying the ‘job’ that a punctuation mark is doing, sorting tasks, adding punctuation marks to sentences, rewriting sentences with corrected punctuation, board games for sentence-making, and using images as prompts for guided sentence writing.
